IQOS – A world without tobacco smoke through science

Science and technology are dispelling misconceptions this time as well.

That's why we called on Milan Popović, a science communicator known for bringing science closer to different age groups and making it interesting. Through scientific demonstrations at the IQOS Boutique in TC Gallery, he explained in an accessible and simple way why IQOS is a better choice than continuing to smoke cigarettes.

In one of the demonstrations, he compared the changes that IQOS aerosol leaves when passed through a white cotton ball with the changes caused by the smoke of 20 cigarettes on the same material. Cigarettes left a strong color and smell on the cotton wool, while this was not the case with IQOS aerosol.

Milan obtained the nugget of tar that was exposed on this occasion by filtering the smoke of 400 cigarettes through several liters of water in order to eventually eliminate the water by evaporation and obtain the tar as a dry residue. And part of this amount of tar remains in the smoker's lungs because tar is a product of cigarette combustion.

Tar is a product of cigarette combustion. IQOS does not create tar, it heats the tobacco instead of burning it. It creates an aerosol residue that is fundamentally different from tar and contains significantly lower levels of harmful ingredients.* Switching entirely to IQOS is less harmful than continuing to smoke cigarettes.**
